Borough Market

*screams*

This is so blog worthy.

I don't care if everyone thinks it's "so ASIAN" to take pictures of food and the likes. I like it. It's fun and that's all that matters. So I went trigger-happy when Woon brought me to Borough Market the other day when I was in London, on condition that I didn't appear TOO much like a tourist such that I'd attract pickpockets.

Well, we weren't pick pocketed though I'm pretty sure I appeared very much like a stereotypical tourist. Hahaha.

I've heard so much about this and read about it online, so I was really excited when I knew I was going to visit the place!

Ta-dah!

Woon and I were starving by the time we got there so we made a beeline for the Swiss Raclette.

It's literally a carb fest - roasted potatoes, baby pickles and pickled onions sprinkled generously with sea salt (yummy) and topped with melted roasted cheese....

We were too busy stuffing our faces full of this sinful delight that I didn't (couldn't) bother taking a picture. I can only say that every bite was pure bliss. The warm, slightly burnt salty cheese (something like cheddar but less heavy in flavour) went superbly well with the slightly bland taste of roasted potatoes and the tangy vinegared pickles and onions. The sea salt gave it an additional kick especially so when you bite into a whole baby roast potato alone or indulged in a huge slab of burnt cheese.... Mmmmmmm.

God. I want some more.

After we finished most of it, Woon felt it necessary to introduce me to the wild boar sausage with peppered sauce (that wasn't as peppery as I would've liked it though).

A crowd favourite. It was sold out in no time. The wild boar sausages AND all other stuff too. We had just finished our meal when it closed. Imagine that!

Again, it was too much of a hassle to take a shot of the food. But I was pretty stuffed with the raclette that by the time we got to the sausage, which we asked for without the bun, and the spinach atop which it rested, I could only finish a little less than half of the sausage. And the sausage was a small one too.

Hahaha. I'm such a loser.

Finally, to wash down the richness of the food we had, we bought a steaming cup of apple cinnamon juice each.

It was a cup of liquid apple crumble... I swear it was apple crumble without the crumble and the apple chunks. So good. And what a way to end the meal! I was stuffed and round as a warthog.

Woon had to leave for school so it gave me an opportunity to go round taking shots of the place!

I love Borough Market. Everything on display as like a work of art. Just check these out!

And I love the variety of food available there. They had everything from

Homemade fruity jam...

60% fruit!!! And au naturale too! I'm mean, SERIOUSLY???? Sheesh! Was tempted to purchase a few jars... But I still have a big jar of strawberry jam I had just recently purchased.... So.... I had to give this a miss. =( (For now)

To turkish delights in every colour and flavour....

So pretty~

To different kinds of salt...

To delicate and decadent cakes/tarts/muffins/pastries/brownies...

I was soooo tempted to get one of these!

To olives of every kind and mix (I love olives)....

To fresh oysters and shellfish served at your whim and fancy....

To other weird seafood....

And hunks of hot crusty loaves...

Gorgeously fresh vegetables...

And fruits too....

Not forgetting an incredible array of dried fruit...

There were so many different types that I have never even conceived off before! Think dried apple rings, apple cinnamon slices, peaches, apricots, whole cranberries, dates, figs, and a lot more that I just can't remember right now. I mean, look at that neverending line of dried fruit! Notwithstanding my crazily full tummy, I could not resist the urge to get myself a bag.

So I did. And finished most of it before I rememebered that I ought to take a picture of it.

Sadly, this was all that was left!

Fig, blueberries, peach, whole cranberries, strawberries... I had apple rings, apple cinnamon slices, apricots and some other stuff too...

And finally, the most amusing product on sale was.... *drum roll* DRUNK CHEESE!!

I was immensely tickled by the name of the store and had initially thought that that was just some clever marketing gimmick until Woon explained that it was just cheese soaked in red wine. (What a lucky chunk of cheese indeed) and urged me to sample some. He said it would be interesting and pretty good and boy, was he right!

I loved it!

The flavour and spice of full bodied red wine coupled with cheese. How can you not love that?

Anyway! *PHEW* This blog post took long! So many pictures! Hahah! I want to go back there again. This time, I'm buying the jam and the dried fruits. I want to take them back with me to Bristol! Whee!

Callie, signing off!

Breakfast @ Callie's

Mmmm. Breakfast.

Breakfast has got to be my favourite meal of the day. Not only is it ALWAYS delicious, but it isn't laden with guilt for having eaten too late in the day. Eating early means more time to burn the calories off, which means!!!

That I get to enjoy my meal.

Yeah, I love breakfast indeed.

So what kind of breakfast do I love?

CEREAL.

I've always loved cereal but cereal + soy milk was introduced to me by Noel. And since then, cereal MUST come with soy milk. Sooooo GOOD.

I'm a lover of Kellogg's Special K cereal. Low in fat, low in calories and not to mention, oh-so-scrumptiously good. Every bite is a delightful blend of sweet fruit and crunchy and crisp cereal. Prior to me coming to UK, my choices of good cereal was limited (what is wrong with all supermarkets in Asia?!). Here, however, I feel like a kid in a candy store! So many options! And do you know what I love best? The fact that they offer wholegrain cereal.

I LOVE wholegrain cereal.

Mmmm. I haven't gotten to the HUGE box I just bought the other day, but I was surfing the shelves for a new cereal to sample and my eyes landed on this:-

I just HAD to try them! They looked so cute and the fact that they're stuffed with fruit makes it all better! I couldn't find the blueberry one though, so I grabbed the apricot and cranberry ones! I believe they have a raisin one too... But somehow, raisins don't float my boat.

Mix it in a bowl with fresh blackberries and yummy reduced sugar/low fat soy milk and.... Voila~!

Gawd I love breakfast.

Yesterday, I woke up and told myself, that I needed a scone. I blame this all on Jesse who introduced me to the lovely world of fruit scones. Mmmmmm.... I went out to grab a bag of Sainsbury's fruit scones. They were small and tiny and yummy served warm with jam!

Sinful I know.

Hahah! But hey, it's breakfast. And breakfast is ALWAYS good.

Nando's

Omg. I LOVE Nando's.

It's a junk food place, but I love it anyways! It's great when you want to treat yourself to something sinful.

I owed Raeza a meal after all that he's helped me with... School and otherwise. =)

This was what we ended up ordering!

Pita bread + Houmous dip with spicy sauce on top! Yummy starter.

The Meal Platter for two. Oh so sinful.... Mmmm. Yummy.

After such a sumptuous meal, we were in no mood to continue with our law assignments and since there was no video game arcade around (what is WRONG with you, Bristol? geez!), we decided to watch a movie.

A movie that completely sucked.

Quantum of Solace. Heard of it? Sure you have.... It's the latest Bond flick and it was ghastly. My brain felt like pulp after being put through 2hrs of complete nonsense. Stay away from it. It's for your own good.

Anyway, we were at Cabot Circus's VUE cinema.... And just to give you a glimpse of the layout, this is how the foyer outside the rooms look.

Gorgeous ain't it?

Yeah. But they don't have caramel popcorn. *sigh* 5 point deduction coz of that.

Fish n' Chips

I have had a MASSIVE craving for the good ol' English fish n' chips for about a week now. And the craving has been so infectious, I managed to infuse the same desire for fish n' chips in most of my flatmates!

We planned and arranged for tonight where we were going to drive out, grab some good Fish n' Chips, 'coz as Suyin says, if yo want to have Fish n' Chips, you'd better get good ones and not some oil fest). I am in absolute agreement.

Russ drove us out to Clifton Down where we popped into this shop aptly titled "Fish Bar".

Well now, I thought, that is a positive sign! I mean, FISH n' CHIPS. Seriously? Could a fish-n-chips-starved girl ask for more?

NO!

So in we went.

I could hardly wait! The sight and smell of all that yucky/yummy oil-infused fish and potatoes were too good to be true.

I felt like a kid in a candy store.

And indeed I was! No folks, this was all MINE! MINE! You hear? Hands off fellas!

Could I dig in then and there? Yes, I could've but NO! 'Coz I was supposed to have dinner with my flatmates! I'm sure I could wait.... Couldn't I? After all, withstanding instant gratification was the mark of a strong character (if my foggy Psychologist brain remembers right!).

And I'm a girl with a strong character! So I waited....

And waited....

And.

FINALLY!

Look at the size of my baby~~~~

Succulent fish in crisp oily batter.... Mmmmmm

So good.

*Burp*

Okay, now that I'm done with my Fish n' Chips, I can safely say that that was not the best Fish n' Chips I've tasted... But given the fact that I've finally laid my insane craving to rest, I am a very very satisfied girl.

Albeit too satisfied though... I might stay away from fried food in general for a long while to come.

Stay tuned!

Okay.

I've decided to move my food posts from Livejournal to Blogspot for the simple reason that the thumbnails of the pictures posted on Blogspot are larger and thus do the food more justice.

Plus, I like the layout of Blogspot better than Livejournal. =)

So there you go. Welcome to my food blog.

If you're new to me, I've a fashion blog here as well... And previous posts regarding food and pages out of my life can be found here.

Stay tuned!

Post 1 will be up soon! (Once I get my adobe photoshop up and running!)
