Borough Market

*screams*

This is so blog worthy.

I don't care if everyone thinks it's "so ASIAN" to take pictures of food and the likes. I like it. It's fun and that's all that matters. So I went trigger-happy when Woon brought me to Borough Market the other day when I was in London, on condition that I didn't appear TOO much like a tourist such that I'd attract pickpockets.

Well, we weren't pick pocketed though I'm pretty sure I appeared very much like a stereotypical tourist. Hahaha.

I've heard so much about this and read about it online, so I was really excited when I knew I was going to visit the place!

Ta-dah!

Woon and I were starving by the time we got there so we made a beeline for the Swiss Raclette.

It's literally a carb fest - roasted potatoes, baby pickles and pickled onions sprinkled generously with sea salt (yummy) and topped with melted roasted cheese....

We were too busy stuffing our faces full of this sinful delight that I didn't (couldn't) bother taking a picture. I can only say that every bite was pure bliss. The warm, slightly burnt salty cheese (something like cheddar but less heavy in flavour) went superbly well with the slightly bland taste of roasted potatoes and the tangy vinegared pickles and onions. The sea salt gave it an additional kick especially so when you bite into a whole baby roast potato alone or indulged in a huge slab of burnt cheese.... Mmmmmmm.

God. I want some more.

After we finished most of it, Woon felt it necessary to introduce me to the wild boar sausage with peppered sauce (that wasn't as peppery as I would've liked it though).

A crowd favourite. It was sold out in no time. The wild boar sausages AND all other stuff too. We had just finished our meal when it closed. Imagine that!

Again, it was too much of a hassle to take a shot of the food. But I was pretty stuffed with the raclette that by the time we got to the sausage, which we asked for without the bun, and the spinach atop which it rested, I could only finish a little less than half of the sausage. And the sausage was a small one too.

Hahaha. I'm such a loser.

Finally, to wash down the richness of the food we had, we bought a steaming cup of apple cinnamon juice each.

It was a cup of liquid apple crumble... I swear it was apple crumble without the crumble and the apple chunks. So good. And what a way to end the meal! I was stuffed and round as a warthog.

Woon had to leave for school so it gave me an opportunity to go round taking shots of the place!

I love Borough Market. Everything on display as like a work of art. Just check these out!

And I love the variety of food available there. They had everything from

Homemade fruity jam...

60% fruit!!! And au naturale too! I'm mean, SERIOUSLY???? Sheesh! Was tempted to purchase a few jars... But I still have a big jar of strawberry jam I had just recently purchased.... So.... I had to give this a miss. =( (For now)

To turkish delights in every colour and flavour....

So pretty~

To different kinds of salt...

To delicate and decadent cakes/tarts/muffins/pastries/brownies...

I was soooo tempted to get one of these!

To olives of every kind and mix (I love olives)....

To fresh oysters and shellfish served at your whim and fancy....

To other weird seafood....

And hunks of hot crusty loaves...

Gorgeously fresh vegetables...

And fruits too....

Not forgetting an incredible array of dried fruit...

There were so many different types that I have never even conceived off before! Think dried apple rings, apple cinnamon slices, peaches, apricots, whole cranberries, dates, figs, and a lot more that I just can't remember right now. I mean, look at that neverending line of dried fruit! Notwithstanding my crazily full tummy, I could not resist the urge to get myself a bag.

So I did. And finished most of it before I rememebered that I ought to take a picture of it.

Sadly, this was all that was left!

Fig, blueberries, peach, whole cranberries, strawberries... I had apple rings, apple cinnamon slices, apricots and some other stuff too...

And finally, the most amusing product on sale was.... *drum roll* DRUNK CHEESE!!

I was immensely tickled by the name of the store and had initially thought that that was just some clever marketing gimmick until Woon explained that it was just cheese soaked in red wine. (What a lucky chunk of cheese indeed) and urged me to sample some. He said it would be interesting and pretty good and boy, was he right!

I loved it!

The flavour and spice of full bodied red wine coupled with cheese. How can you not love that?

Anyway! *PHEW* This blog post took long! So many pictures! Hahah! I want to go back there again. This time, I'm buying the jam and the dried fruits. I want to take them back with me to Bristol! Whee!

Callie, signing off!
